Veganism and my beliefs

Here is a link to fur trading.
http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=20060820&slug=fur20m
And this is my responce to it.

You know, I have to get this out.
About 4 years ago I actually wanted a mink coat and a pearl necklace. I don't know why I changed my mind, after all before clothes our ancestors wore fur. But a year after i changed my mind I went vegetarian. And a year after that I became a Vegan or a Vegan hopeful as nothing in China is Vegan.

I don't see why throwing red paint on someones fur coat would make them change their minds about buying them. True, the paint destroys the fur so the wearer cant wear it anymore. But it makes them go out and buy a new one. It is against the very ethics of being Vegan.
We are supposed to enlighten people that this is animal cruelty. But instead we only show that we would go to any length to stop people from doing what they want.
Instead of throwing red paint on them, why not hand them a brochure and a video on where their coat came from, and how it was made. With a very detailed view of the animals who are killed for their fur even though the meat is not eaten.

It is like being straight-edge, do you go up to someone who drinks and spit in their drink? no of course not, a straight-edge person belives it is the persons choice of free will. Besides who wants to stand in the way of a drunk and his/her drink when they are not sober enough to hold a conversation other than to ask the bartender for another one after they deck you one in the face.

If you want to show the world that being Vegan is ethical vs. wearing fur and eating meat, showing them the conditions of the animals that made their coat would make them realise we are not hardcore militant terrorists, who, like bible thumpers, shove our beliefs down others throats. We should peacefully show them the truth, not destroy the only memory of the animal that died in vain. Going hardcore will only bring a hatered and build a wall between those who are interested in hearing us and us ourselves.

To change the minds of others we need to build an environment that makes them comfortable to take the time to listen to what we have to say so they can make a decision, If we force them it is like punishing a child, they wont listen to us and they wont take us seriously.

Veganism is not nearly mainstream enough as it is, but it is growing through fads, celebrities, and Peta ads. The truth is we are the front line, we are the ones who can make a choice, but by condemming someone for their free will, only makes them do it more. And that is the cause of more animal suffering. In order to replace a coat out of anger that you destroyed, more animals died. And we as compassionate as we can be were really the cause of the suffering. Live and let live should be our motto, just because some one saw J.LO wearing fur and wants one to emulate the celebs, we need to seek out the reasonable mind sets. We need to tell them the truth, instead of putting ourselves at odds with those who would one day join us.

Doing the hardcore militant viariety of Veganism only shuts out our words and prevents others from make a big life change for the better of the world and the animals.

Thank you for taking the time to read my rant/philosophical and long winded post. Good day!
